Healthcare

Healthcare

Expats can use healthcare between the public- and private sector. However, it is advised that expats choose Private Health Insurance as it that will provide a world-class levels of care.

Public Healthcare-

Most of South Africans uses the public healthcare option, but this system is charged according to the patient’s income and number of dependants on their healthcare plan.

The public healthcare system lacks resources and funding which may lead expats to come across long queues and overworked staff members.

Private Healthcare –

A small percentage of people can afford the Private Healthcare sector, however the services that are provided are outstanding. There are over 200 hospitals with most of the country’s health professionals.

Health Hazards –

The following health hazards must be taken into consideration when residing in South Africa –

  1. Malaria – Across the North East of the country and the borders of Mozambique and Swaziland, specific prescription medication is required
  2. Tap water – Although the tap water in South Africa is safe, one must be cautious in rural areas
  3. HIV/AIDS – Expats must ensure to always take precautions by using protection
