Children accompanying their parents on Temporary Residence Visa are required to obtain a Visitor’s Visa in terms of section 11(1)(b)(iv) of the Immigration Act of 2002, as amended.

WHAT IS AN ACCOMPANYING MINOR VISA?
This visa allows the child to lawfully reside with the parent while the parent is on a work assignment, retired or any other visa in South Africa. These visas are generally valid for a period of 2 – 3 years or the period corresponding with the main applicant’s visa.
WHAT IS NEEDED TO QUALIFY FOR AN ACCOMPANYING MINOR VISA?
You need to be a biological or legally adopted child of the main applicant or Temporary Residence Visa holder.
As the child of a South African Temporary Residence Visa (Work visa, Retired person visa etc) holder you are required by law to apply for a Visitor’s Visa in terms of section 11(1) b (iv) of the Immigration Act of 2002, as amended.
This visa allows you to lawfully reside with your parent while he/she is on a work assignment or retired in South Africa. This visa does not allow you to work, study or conduct a business in South Africa.
Children under the age of 7 who are not considered to be of school going age, can go to kinder garden/ preparatory schools using the Accompanying Minor Visa as per the South African Immigration Act.
Children from the age of 7 will need to apply for Study Visa to allow them to study in South Africa.
